Just coming down to Sells Green this evening and I heard a very loud pop, first thought was that the bike had back fired but then a bit further on I could feel it was a puncture on the back tyre :(
£117 for a new one :'(

Lucky for me I wasn't far from home as my bike is fecking heavy to push..
Looks like a piece of electrical cable I dug out of the tyre, far too big a hole to think about plugging

I'm going to drop the wheel in here tomorrow morning

Had that on the Sv a few years back.... is a little alarming when you hear the pop!

Glad all is ok though (apart from the wallet!)

Caused by lazy bastids chucking crap on the roads and verges .. tins, bottles you name it

Crap everywhere just thrown out by useless unthinking dumfooks who don't give a second thought to the damage and cost their crap can cause >:(

I would put a £10 charge on all drink tins/bottles/takeaways repaid on return and confiscate vehicles and fine any scum caught flytipping 8-)

Got much worse last few years

All fixed now. Looks like a piece of cable with a metal sleeve that was in the tyre.

On the plus side I now have a Bridgestone BT 023 which is supposed to be much better than the 021 :)

Have to remember to take it steady for 100 miles :-/

That's a total fallacy, you really don't need to do that at all. Make sure the pressure is correct, find some good grippy bits of road and roundabouts (anything with Shellgrip is ideal), go back and forth a few times until the shiny release agent is scrubbed off the tyre and that's it, ride as normal. Need only take five minutes.

Re: new tyres...

The mould is sprayed with a mould release oil/agent to stop the tyre sticking to the mould as it cures. This means your new tyre is covered in oil, which is why you have to ride carefully for 100 miles, especially in the rain! :-/

However.

Take said new tyre-on-wheel and scrub the tread with warm soapy water in a suitable receptacle (bath :D)

When you have scrubbed all the way round, rinse it off (with the showerhead) :D :D

The tyre will now be devoid of anything oily and safe to use from the start!

Rubber itself is quite delicate, containing many oils and minerals in its bulk - do NOT (FFS...) use brake cleaner, petrol or WD40 to clean your tyres off. It will NOT be good. :o
