I took out the Pilot lights & replaced the bulbs with Green LED's to make myself more visible.

I will have to change them back for the MOT next month.

HID's are a pet hate of mine.

Having been blinded by idiots with them all winter I am convinced they should be banned. If you can't see properly slow the funk down!

My dip beam, aux lights and spots are all fitted with HID's ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

MOT man was happy with the beam height, spread and pattern so therefore I am as well ;)

must be good watching people drive into ditches etc. on dark nights after passing you.

The trick is not to have them on when there's someone coming the other way ;D I find that helps. The dip beam is properly adjusted, I never get flashed and no ones ended up in the ditch for the three years I have had it fitted ;) I do agree though that badly adjusted HID's are a real pain for all concerned.

It's not about being a pain in the arse to others, it's about being seen and not ending up dead or worst because some numpty didn't see you :-/

But I'd rather annoy someone than not be seen by them :)

The problem is that it isn't just an annoyance, It's plain lethal if you cop an eye full of HiD. The dazzle blinds you and I mean BLINDS.... you may well have been seen, but the other guy is now in the opposite ditch....

I'm not talking about HiD lights I'm looking at LEDs.
Kevin that's a matter of personal opinion, personally I think the bikes in the videos look better with the extra lights.
I like to personalize cars/bikes etc. I think everything can be improved on compared to standard, but some people do go over the top.
As for wearing a hi viz ;D no thanks I'll stick to lights

Stu I think they look great :)

Be seen be Safe. When riding not bothered if I annoy them least they've seen me. Mine aren't that bright when the dipped headlight comes ::)

My thoughts exactly,
I don't want to dazzle them off the road but I want the feckers to put down their mobile phones and know that I'm on the road with them

When dark, the only way I can see where I'm going is when I'm being tailed by him.

One technique I use when riding or driving at night is when approached by an oncoming car, I don't look directly at their lights, I switch between the nearside curb and the white lines in the centre of the road to gauge both my position and view of the road ahead. All lights, irrespective of HID or not, will dazzle if they're badly adjusted and in addition, HID's should use the appropriate type of "projector" reflector which is something missed by some users. They are worse when fitted to cars as the position height is lower than on a bike and therefore a badly adjusted beam will dazzle a lot more.

However, as mentioned above, the original post concerns LED's and not HID's which are very different entities.

I've tried that and it works fine with conventional halogen lights. The problem is that the HID is SO bright that one glance is enough to dazzle, and the beam patterns of lenses designed for halogens seems to go out of the window spraying light everywhere.

But try when the funker is following you and your mirrors are full of light..... my issue is not the type of lights used, but the excessive brighness. I was followed by a BM car during the winter. I had to pull over after 10 mins because my eyes were hurting due to the light from my mirrors. Hi lights were adjusted but the glare was still amazing! But if you think about it that is not a suprise. These lights are fitted because they are brighter..... this means that they are brighter for the poor sod that has to look at them.

I used to be a welder, if I had to look at somthing that bright, I'd have got a mask! These things are getting close to the point where arc eye is a very real possibility.

As I say, if a road is dark, slow down. Don't try and create a false daylight (either HID or LED).

Ah but if you have good lights you can see as well as day light so no need to slow down :D

Kevin I quite fancy this one

Hmm.... this has given me an idea.

The filamnt lamp on the cub is..... well, useless and the alternator struggles to keep up. If I can rig up a bike light (most are 6V) I can get better lights and a happier alternator..... winner!!!!

Or at least preserve the alternator. I tries a 2.5W led and that will be plenty bright enough. Just need to focus the light correctly.

05-08-12, 03:07 AM
good stuff :) can you let me know how you get on fitting them? i fancy a pair rear facing mounted on my topbox but they seem a bit more involving on the fitting than my Cree's were...

Snowy
05-08-12, 09:35 AM
Bullets are easy to fit...its just a positive and earth. The current draw is minimal so you can just tap into an appropriate wire. You just need to find a good place to mount them where there's a hole for the wires to go through as they exit the bullets in the base. You will be using the red ones pointing rearwards won't you?

Swanny
05-08-12, 07:33 PM
Yea I'm having trouble finding a good spot to mount them :-/
I may give up and send them back
