The F4 has only gone and failed its mot, apparently it has European headlights fitted and they can't adjust it!
How can it go through 10 years of MOTs then fail on something that the manufacturer fitted as standard?

Don't know anywhere that would allow it!?!
I'd rather not be stung with a £400 bill for something that isn't my fault.

Is that where the beam is angled more to the right? if so you can buy a stick on erm....sticker for the headlight an this will sort out the problem :)

Senna(Dan)
20-07-12, 07:37 PM
Wes, the guys at the dealers tried everything and it still wont sort it out; the headlight is domed so it naturally beams right.

might be worth having a look somewhere like demon tweeks n see if they don't have a conversion kit. might not be cheap but it'll be less than £400, even if you only fit it for the MoT

Can you not contact the chap you bought it from and find out how he MOTd the bike?.

Have you got the an old MOT Certificate ?

Senna(Dan)
20-07-12, 08:18 PM
Got all the old mots in the folder and conveniently there is no advisories!
MV Agusta UK may well be helping with the cost now apparently.

I would take it to the station it was MOT'd at last... may be a trek but cheaper than £400, lol

He does all my scoots and bikes, never a problem.

Its a 400 mile round trip and getting the time to do that is not easy. Especially with me pending leaving the country.

? Where did you buy it? France? :D

Try the MV forums, somebody may want swapsies for their UK headlight if they are emigrating etc?

Fit it upside down and reverse the wire in the hi/lo switch ;)

Found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MV-Agusta-F4-Headlight-Unit-NO-BULBS-European-Dip-Change-Dip-Plate-For-UK-/221068408795?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3378b 437db#ht_500wt_1054

States "change dip plate for UK", which to me reads there is a relocatable reflector inside to give left or righthand dip?

Whether you relocate the same plate or buy a new UK plate I have no idea - but I can safely assume it will not be £400-worth! ;)

most of the 750 sennas were imported from europe as grey imports as the actual importers seemed to be going bust all the time.try the mv owners club someone will have a way around it

taking it somewhere else probably wont work now you have been failed on it, as it's on the system now for the next place to see. check for your self on direct/gov summit or other MOT thingie

Too late now, it's on the system why it failed. But +1 on Paul Cridge in WB, don't trust anyone else with my cars, and he's the best MOT'er for bikes.

You used to be able to get refractive film for car headlights in order to re-direct the beam. Couldn't you try somthing like that???

Emailed the seller:

"Hello, I am looking at a Euro F4 with the Euro headlight - this will need changing to run in the UK & for MOT purposes etc... I understand there to be a "dip plate" in said headlight - can the Euro one be relocated to give a UK dip or would I need a new plate?"

"Hi There,
Thanks for your enquiry. Yes you would need a replacement dip plate. We don't have any, but they shouldn't be
too difficult to get hold of.
If you need any more info, please feel free to get in touch."

Cheers for that mate, the dealers are in in contact with MV regarding it because of the fact that the original garage should have picked it up on the ~PDI. There is a tick in the box so I don't know what will happen >:(
Have to hope it can sorted by Friday as otherwise she will have to be SORNed until I get back.

Hello mate its Nigel, what's the latest?.

Senna(Dan)
27-07-12, 09:10 PM
Latest is that MotoGB are awaiting a reply from MV Agusta in Italy. They can't authorize a replacement without authority from them; so the Senna will be off the road until next year now. Not really an issue because I don't get back until December anyways, will just have to take it up with them then.

Senna(Dan)

Update on the headlight.
MotoGB finally got back in touch with me today and the news isn't good. MV are unwilling to replace the headlight as the bike is 10 years old and has passed all its previous MOTs without an issue.
MotoGB are however willing to send me the offending part at cost price so that I can fit it myself. Awaiting a price on this because I have a spare headlight unit lined up and ready to be sent from a guy on the MV forum.

Dan505

Arses, would want to know why its always passed elsewhere

Senna(Dan)

It was taken to the same garage for the last 7 years and the guy just happens to know the owners and he takes all his bikes there. Problem should be solved prior to Christmas though.

so he supplied a 'false' MOT then? i'd have words about halving the costs or have a word with the DFT or here (http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20110503154421/http://direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022113)

Senna(Dan)

I am in touch with trading standards now Dan,but will add the DFT onto my hitlist. The supplying dealer still haven't got back to me after 6 emails and 2 letters.

Dan505

That bites, only thing is DFT say can't claim after 28 days. Hope you do manage to get it squared away
