Budget of £18,000 what bike would you get??

My short list, you can see the problem, not even sure what type of bike I want!!!

Can't decide, sports (Ducati, RSV 4), sports tourer (ZZR1400), cruiser ( HD Street Glide, Road King)

Help!

Hmm can you have more than 1, or can you only have 1?

This is a one shot deal! Retiring from Army, wife allowing a purchase!!! Never had a new bike always used, so treating myself, so got to get it right!

I might be able to squeeze a used bike alongside brand new one, but fancy a green lane, bike as well. :-?

hmm for £18k I'd get a selection, one for each mood! For me it'd be street triple (though I already have one...but would buy if I didnt) plus a triumph sprint st for longer journeys. But then I like triumph bikes so very biassed :)

you could get a decent sports and a tourers with change to spare from 18k

For a cheap greenlane/runabout alongside whatever new bike you opt for I can recommend the BMW F650, comfortable, practical, economical and plenty capable enough for greenlanes. The best bit is that they are pretty underated and so relatively cheap and plenty around. Having recently ridden a friends I will be buying one in the next couple of months.

As for the new bike you have a massive choice; of course if you were to widen the criteria to say bikes a year old you increase your choice further having let someone else take the hit on the initial depreciation.

I hope you get what you want, in the meantime enjoy the search!

Good advice, but as everyone knows, common sense very rarely dictates the bike we ride! I know the depreciation thing, but like I said, never had a brand new bike before!!

Current bike is a ZZR1100, in excellent condition!!! So logically, don't even need a new bike. Just want one!!

Might get away with keeping that!

Good combo, but like the laid back look of Road King and comfort and Bling of Street Glide in Matt Black!!

With 3 boys under 7, the tour of a lifetime may have to wait, I think a month in USA is all I can muster, or get away with! :-/

BMW K1600GT or wait until the new water cooled R1200GS Adventure is out :)
Bike journalist's getting killed, tank slappers reported by test riders from UK and USA, I think I'd wait a bit longer for the R1200GS. All that and MCN still gave it 4 stars!

That's while I'll wait for the Adventure so all the bugs are ironed out. From hearing those that have taken delivery its a stonking ride and no signs of any tankslappers - maybe they need to try harder ;D

I should have a serious think about what you're going to use it for.
If you've got a zzr then you're going to be in for a hell of a shock on an rsv4! 60 mile tank range, tiny dimensions and servicing will skin you alive.

Think about what you want and get back to us, otherwise everyone is just writing down names of bikes.

Getting a brand new car or bike aint all its cracked up to be (well I didnt think it was).

Me I'd spend a big chunk on an experience not all on a bike.

Hope you really enjoy it however you use it :)

Triumph Rocket 111 roadster with enough cash left over to Turbo charge it or Moto Guzzi California 1400, but still quite happy with the Yamaha MT-01. I've had it six years and still an awsome bit of kit.

Yes, that is a concern, I've got used to the practicalities of the ZZR, it was a stop gap bike when I sold my 955i, I have owned mainly sports bikes in the past R6, R1, fireblade, SP1, but you're right the small tank range would annoy me eventually. I think in the main I would like to go distances in comfort, but have a bike with character!!

Character is what Brit, Americans and Italians call it.
The Japanese call it unreliable.
You want to do big distances in comfort?
You already know the answer, don't you? and it doesn't cost 18k

Booked ZZR1400 test ride in Bristol on Sat, then Harley's Wed, then will try the explorer, no rush, hopefully one of these will grab my attention.

Character isn't always unreliable, I enjoyed the Triumph America it was under powered, but it was the older 790cc version but never let me down!!

I had two Bonnie 790's one solo and one with a sidecar, lovely well made bikes, preferred it to the 865cc which I felt was a bit too lumpy
