    I would recommend a 70's or early 80s bike with a steel frame an old fashioned engine.

    Old Yamaha and Suzuki singles and twins are good as a very simple engines. Check out what House has posted on this forum.

    I have been looking at his stuff but he seems to have a lot of engineering skills.

    Everything 70's and 80's seems to be fetching top dollar. The safest thing for me is something that doesn't need a complete engine rebuild for a first project. I'll keep trawling gumtree and ebay
