    Modern fuels & older bikes

    Had a mail yesterday,

    Hi All,
Great news from Esso. Their new Shell Super Unleaded (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97 and Synergy Supreme+ 99) both contail No Ethanol; although will be marked as E5 (UP TO 5% Ethanol). Not available everywhere. THIS is the fuel to use in your classic, high compression and carburetted motors.

Thanks, I've got lots of old tat with those carb thingies and use an additive when I remember but not convinced it helps so will be hunting out the nearest Shell garage from now on

back in the days of old when 2,3 and 4 star petrol was king i used to work for a company that had a spraying department so for my trusty old mk1 escort 1300GT and every 4 gallons of 4 star i used to add a gallon of trimite no.7 paint thinner. it used to smoke a bit but it did half shift lol

I'm not convinced ethanol is harmful to everything running a carb. I ran my old ZZR round the clocks on Tesco's cheapest. I left a tank of Tesco's cheapest in a 1977 bike for almost 3 years and the only thing that didn't break on that was the carb and fuel lines.

I always use Tesco momentum for both of my bikes. I remember when they used it for the GB rally car fuel a while back.
