After the hoggin the bridge ride and passing through the average speed check scameras on the M4 I got to wondering as these cameras face forward do they work on bikes. It seems they don't

AVERAGE SPEED cameras pose no threat to motorcyclists - that's the claim being made by Essex County Council's Road Safety wing.

The claim comes after local councillors commissioned a survey to find whether average speed cameras could help reduce the number of motorcycle-related accidents within the county, says a report in the Sunday Express. Experts advised the council it was a waste of time, claiming “Number plates on motorcycles could not be captured” due to the fact that motorbikes have no forward facing number plate.

A Highways Agency spokesman confirmed the findings, but also said newer average speed cameras “can” be rotated to face at “some” locations. However, the spokesman refused to reveal exactly where, saying: “Motorcyclists would know which ones to avoid.”

    Keep 'em peeled.

But it's not all good news

Worrying new surveillance development 07 May 2012
Taking the new bike for a spin this weekend, I noticed construction of what appears to be some serious surveillance equipment along much of the A465 (the famous "Heads of the Valleys&quot road in south Wales.

Are the cameras yellow to match the nice daffodils and tulips?
Hey Pugsly. They are average speed cameras which measure you over a distance.......... as you ride a Triumph they won't affect you!

only thing to be aware of swanny , average cameras don't capture the bike plate true enough but they do register you and most roadworks do have cameras CCTV facing behind you which can be used as supporting evidence if pursued....... I know for a fact as I have had a day in court doing it ,
if you want to test it make sure you ride a bike and dress with NO distinguished features :'(

fecking M5 roadworks.... 2 years of them through Avonmouth a couple of years back......... There was a funny side however, on the same day 4 more sorry souls were in being reprimanded......... For speeding through there......... They all worked on it (the widening that was) and one actually put the cameras up pmsl

The front facing average speed cameras on the motorways clock your front plate, it isn't a human, only a computer, so if it doesn't see a plate, it ignores you. As they don't clock a plate on a bike, the computer totally ignores them, no idea what you got clocked with, but it wasn't average speed cameras. Unless it was SPECs3, these are type approved for rear facing, but not very widely used, and not until recently.
