I read some stuff on the Adventure Rider forum a while ago saying that Ewan & Charley’s accompanying support crew carried generators - I’m sure that if this were to be true there wouldn’t be any evidence of them escaping the editor’s knife to keep the products of the major sponsor of the trip from looking bad... somebody gives you free bikes and bankrolls your latest jolly, you don’t make ‘em look stupid...
We’ve just started re-watching Long Way Round and while it’s entertaining and slickly produced, Austin Vince’s trips such as Terra Circa and Mondo Enduro are far more authentic - a bunch of guys riding relatively low-tech bikes all over the world, no big names or big budgets, and importantly NO SUPPORT CREWS IN 4x4s! If you haven’t seen any of these, they’re well worth tracking down. That said, we’ll no doubt watch Ewan & Charley’s latest one when it’s more widely available.
