Glad it gave you a chuckle, since having a hot shower and a couple of cold cans im starting to see the funny side of it.
An important lession has been learned, emergency kits are only of use if you have them with you, from now on it's going under the seat.

A girlie friend had an old Citroen diesel car. I was using it when the throttle pedal assembly removed itself from the floor of the car.
I attached the dog's lead to the cable and adjusted the length to just reach the steering wheel. Now I had a hand throttle much like a flappy-paddle and drove it like this for several weeks.
Don't think it would pass an MoT though.
