    the ACU along with other motorsport bodies are concerned about the latest EU soundings.
    their website/newsletter outlines its concerns but here is the governments consultation papers.
    it could end motorsport as insurance risk is too high.

    for those who don't want to read, the basics are

    "The ruling makes it compulsory for anyone using any form of motorised transport to have third party damage and injury insurance. This will affect all participants in all forms of motorsport."

    the worry is that bike and rider MUST have 3rd party insurance, and we all know how contact motorsport is, everyone will be claiming against all other competitors, resulting in high cost so Insurers will not offer cover, no cover no race.

    Background:

    The Vnuk judgment imposes compulsory third party injury and damage insurance to all vehicles of any kind when used on any type of land. As well as affecting all motorsport vehicles, it could affect electric bicycles, sit-on lawnmowers, golf buggies, mobility scooters and even uninsured vehicles parked on private property under the Statutory Off-Road Notification scheme. The ruling stems from a case involving a Slovenian farm worker, who was hurt falling from a ladder, which was hit by a reversing tractor.

    But the nation voted Brexit, so it's irrelevant.

    sorry, no its not irrelevant.
    you could stop Euro riders/racers coming over , likewise we could stop going to Europe to race but there would be so much 'do I need or not or only for x time', the paperwork would take longer to process than journey time. prices would go up.
    bear in mind, the original case was brought by a man up a ladder being hit by a tractor, it opens up major concerns , look at whiplash claims as another example. these are being clamped down on now and that's in the UK.

    The law may not be irrelevant, but this thread is, we voted Brexit (not me personally just to clarify), so we have zip influence on Euro laws now.

    I think you've misunderstood what will happen when exiting the EU for starters - we won't just suddenly be exempt from previous rulings or discard a load of laws.

    Secondly EU racers will presumably be affected which means we either exclude them from racing in the U.K., or exclude ourselves from racing in the EU, or have to deal with the consequences of this suggested ruling.

    It's a bit short sighted to just say "doesn't matter, brexit"

    The government has issued a consultative document about this and there's a link from bikesportnews website to it. Interestingly the insurance companies believe the motorsport risks may be uninsurable....can't see it being enacted anywhere with a halfway sensible government........

    I thought one of the basics of insurance was you have to be a risk - it is illegal to insure your car and NOT use it, you are effectively defrauding the insurances by building no claims you aren't entitled to.

    This has been passed, down to the UK now how we implement it.
