I don't think we are. Have a wander around your local cemetery and have a look at the ages on the gravestones. Infant mortality used to be much higher and that dropped the average age down, once you got past childhood and survived wars people generally lived long lives.
Have a look at how unhealthy people are these days, I can't see many of them making it into their 80's or 90's
