    Just spoken to my testers.

As long as they cant get caught up in anything or dont restrict steering movement they are fine.

A couple of cable ties arent recommended but would secure a pass on the brake lines if your worried.

Agree, I take mine to Bike Treads, and they usually do it straight away without an appointment.

whilst we have an MOT thread going, my bike has the FI light permanently lit up at the moment due to the butterfly valve in the exhaust stuck open. is this an MOT fail?

    Shouldn't be it's not mentioned here http://www.motuk.com/bike/7-1.asp#Menu_Top

You'd be surprised what you can get away with and pass an MOT. I passed my last one with debaffled, unmarked pipes and a bent gear linkage where I had to use a leatherman and a hammer infront of the garage to put the bike in neutral (dropped bike and bent gear linkage day before MOT), they just put an advisory as "Gear linkage slightly loose".
