I have trouble selecting neutral and shifting gears on my 1985 VMAX seemed like the clutch was draging a bit, so decided to strip it down to find out what was going on expecting to find worn out overheated clutch plates, to my suprise it was near on perfect all components within tollerance.

I am due an oil change shortly and wondered if the oil type/grade would improve matters.

Lastly I have renewed the slave cylinder and new clutch fluid the lever feels mint with a very nice biting point really do not think it is a problem with the hydrualic side?

Any ideas as it is proving to be a miserable ride

Does it get better as the bike warms up ? If it does then its the oil.

Replace with recommended oil, I find that rock oil is very good.

Bike now sorted, fitted genuine Yam clutch kit, neutal is a breeze transformed the bike!!.

Could not find any fault with the old components but the differnce in quality was clear
