I was involved with the planning of a flypast today and so thought I would mention it here in case any of you fancied taking a ride down and watching this.

For those interested there will be a military flypast at Chitterne on the 12 May which will consist of a Hurricane and a Typhoon Fighter Jet. The Hurricane is then going to stay on for a number of fly through and small display.

It was, according to the details I saw at work today due to take place at 1230 but the parish council website says 12noon so if you are interested be there for just before 12 to make sure you see it. This is from the Church Newsletter. May be busy as they are handing over the Sqn Colours (expect a colour party of RAF personnel to hand them over) so dont expect to park right outside the church.

On Sunday 12th May, and with kind permission of the PCC, the No 3(F) Squadron Standard will be laid up in our Village Church with “safe lodging in the House of God until such time it should pass to dust like those whose courage and devotion are enshrined in its history”.
No3(F) Sqn was formed at Larkhill on 11th May 1912 as the first squadron in the Royal Flying Corps to be equipped with fixed wing aircraft. The squadron spent the first two years of its existence on Salisbury Plain before deploying to France in August 1914. Chitterne therefore is a most appropriate final resting place for a No3 (F) Sqn consecrated Standard which bears battle honours including Mons, Somme, Cambrai, Battle of Britain, Normandy and Arnhem. More recently the Squadron has been in action over Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq, Afghanistan and Lybia. The Service, with full ceremonial, will start at 11am and a flypast of a Hurricane and Typhoon is planned for mid day.

Make sure you get some photos as its not often they fly these jets in close formation with the warbirds!

We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.”
