the crash damaged fairing I got from ebay needs a few small scrapes and 1p-sized holes fixing, so I've been recommended to fibreglass the back of the holes and use P38 filler on top, rubbing down with wet & dry. I've bought a fibreglass pack (matts, resin, hardener etc) and a tub of p38 - anyone got any general tips?

chances are I'll mess it up and the fairing will have to go in the bin, but it's worth a play on a sunny weekend hehe

What you will need to do first is run some strips of strong masking tape over the main part of the fairings (the bit thats on show) and fibreglass from the back. The masking tape should give the fibreglass a good smooth finish so there will not be a lot of filler needed, maybe just too smooth it over a bit.

Wet and dry is not good, you want a good not to harsh bit of sand paper to begin with ans sand so the filler is nice and smooth.

Warm the primer up at this time of the year or it will be too thin and lightly dust the areas holding the can a good 12 or inchs away from the parts that need spraying. Yuo can not use the wet and dry to flat the areas off between coats.

Take your time and be cool and you should not make any mistakes.

yeh that would've been great I've found some extra bits I need on ebay now, and spent 30 mins phoning round parts places at lunchtime to locate a fairing fixing kit..and also found someone who can spray it all up (though not sure how cheap yet) - I'm aiming to have the bike done by May but then depends how long the fibreglass and filler stage takes!

can we swap jobs rich? lol

as bodywork goes, i haven't got a clue. just found myself a (free!!!!) set of track fairings for the B1 which need repairing. just going to wimp out of this and take them down to a mate's to sort out.

    a lot easier lol
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
