seeing as my bike is currently sat up on stands cause front wheel is being sent to be straightened.

i thought the wheels need to come off anyway for new rubber...and whilst there off get them p-coated.

my swingarm has seen better days.....so may aswell have that coated too.

gsxr750 k6..........straight forward enough removal or not?

    thanks for advice

    Dan

ok reading the haynes book ......its abit above my level i think. its more a problem of not having a decent area to work on bike. i miss my old house grage and everything

...Er, it may be on a conventional rear paddock stand, which holds the bike up by lifting the swingarm, and that's the bit he wants to remove - it'll need an ABBA-type stand that can be put into the footrest brackets to hold the bike up independently of the swingarm...

Axle stands/trolley jack/bricks are adequate substitutes.

i agree with that no need to buy stupid expensive stand ive always used axle stand to work on bikes and ive been working on bikes since i was 17 and have never needed to use abba stand or padock stands and never will
ive removed wheels swing arms forks on lots of bikes just useing jacks and axle stand aslong as you are carefull around the bike when its on the stands and put protective pads on the top of the stands to stop them damageing the frame there is no need to spend stupid amounts of money on bike stands

i've never used stands either, but thats only due to the fact i dont have them and manage somehow without, then wish i'd bought some the next time i come to do anything! they make life easier, job quicker = more time to ride! if your gonna take the swing arm off which is easy, dont forget you'll have to take the chain off too to get it painted.
