    True.
I run my bike last winter at least every other week - left it running for 20-30 min and switch off. Next time -5 and snow and bike started just like 2 weeks ago. (bit longer with choke ) min 2 year old battery and no optimiser

I ride mine everyday even in winter when thats possible ,last year it would not start a couple of mornings when it was -5 so had to resort to charger for half hour it would turn the engine but not fast enough to fire it up.
This year i too starter motor out and gave it a good clean and checked carbon brushes and greased bearings so hoping if it gets that cold again it should start, but i think the Datatool alarm drains it to much in cold weather >

When my bike is not being used it's constantly on the optimiser.
Never had a problem (touch wood!)
