I'm meeting some old friends from Wales that are coming to Swindon to pick a horse cart up soon.

Looking to eat somewhere nice in South Swindon / Marlborough area in the evening (or I suppose even near the M4 Bath junction).

Can anybody recommend anywhere please ?

Doesn't have to be eatra posh, but a really nice pub would be good.

    Cheers
    Gerry

The Rose and Crown at Pucklechurch is a very good country Pub. Does good beer and pub grub. Not far from Bath M4 Junction.

My top suggestions aren't in Swindon or Bath, but not far off the M4 in between.

I've been to the Old House at Home, Burton a couple of times now and always been very impressed with the interesting menu and the quality of the food.

The Three Crowns, Brinkworth is always good to impress. They have lots of different blackboard menus to choose from ranging from standard pub grub to exotica like ostritch, crocodile and kangaroo.

Think this is the place that didn't like me ordering a hot chocky and a hot water (for the lovely Nokesy's home grown pepermint tea) when we popped in one Sunday - got very grumpy service from the bossette there !
Silly as if she asked me to pay for the hot water I would have cheerfully !

Was a nice place though - will pop it on the possible list.

    Cheers

Would love to say "I'll have a crocodile burger please - and make it snappy" ;D

    Thanks Ro.

I've heard lots of good reports about the Burj, Foxhill, near Wanborough, if you like Indian. It used to be the sheppard's rest pub.

I've eaten at the Three Crowns, lovely food but you can't book a table so if you hit a busy period you could end up waiting a while.
The Brewers Arms in Wanborough gets the thumbs up from one of the lads from work.

The Burj is good...but bloody expensive for what it is. Wouldn't say it is a place for old friends to meet up though.

The Brewers Arms is a bit meh

I'd go for The Plough Inn. Never had a bad meal there and always a decent atmosphere
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
