    Aren't they in the process of laying off soldiers???? :-?

    The equipment plan includes the following major investments in state-of-the-art military capabilities and their support over the next ten years:

    • £35.8 billion on submarines and the nuclear deterrent, including a total of 7 Astute Class attack submarines, and developing a replacement for Vanguard Class ballistic missile submarines;
    • £18.5 billion on combat air power, including Lightning II and Typhoon fast jets and unmanned aerial vehicles;
    • £17.4 billion on ships, including Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, 6 new Type 45 destroyers and the development of the Type 26 Global Combat Ship;
    • £13.9 billion on aircraft for air-to-air refuelling, passengers and heavy lift, such as Voyager and A400M;
    • £12.3 billion on armoured fighting vehicles, including Warrior, Scout and other land equipment;
    • £12.1 billion on helicopters, including Chinook, Apache, Puma and Wildcat;
    • £11.4 billion on weapons, including, for example, missiles, torpedoes and precision guided bombs.

    Where exactly are they going to get this money???

    Maybe the MOD has been given it's own printing press

    If it were proved to me that in making war, my ideal had a chance of being realized, I would still say "no" to war. For one does not create a human society on mounds of corpses. ~Louis Lecoin

    Yet we still refuse to accept the lessons of history :'( :'( :'(

    A new tax will probably be invented so that we can pay for all of this.

    The aircraft they are replacing are very ageing kit, anybody remember Pan Am when they were actually flying?
    1960s aircraft still being used today.

    The contractors building these aircraft have got it well screwed in because if we pull out it will cost the UK more than the actual contract is worth. Scary but true, this is why they binned off the Nimrods and Harriers because the refurb programme was cheaper to bin out of.

    The funny thing is that a load of things on the list have been promised for the last ten years and never delivered. So a lot of it is just delivering the overdue kit, not "new" ideas.

    If we stopped interfering in other countries we wouldn't need any of it
    Our troops could stand at the gates and stop more immigrants coming in

    Lunacy.....someone left the 'spesshuul' room door unlocked again :-?
    Who's getting backhanders for this :-?

    Ain't the MOD just ordered 20000 [why that many?] pistols to replace some errrr perfectly adequate pistols and paid 10% more than getting them over the counter ..

    nicked 'Last July, the MoD announced it was looking for candidates with “heavyweight procurement experience and a proven track record of managing multi-billion complex spend and major suppliers” to fill a number of new senior positions'

    oh dear !! seems they been shopping have they?

    ...as has been pointed out by Senna those charged with 'getting stuff' are lousy at the job and cost us a fortune :'( :'(

    ...maybe the new head bananas are better but I wouldn't hold out much hope :P
    I need amusement in my sad life and it looks, very much, like you fit this requirement admirably..............begin the amusement!!!!!

    Col the head bananas haven't got a clue.

    Take for instance a recent occurrence regarding printer cartridges, anybody with any sense would be compatible cartridges at half the price of genuine ones.

    Nope the MOD pay full whack and a bit more for genuine cartridges.
