I've owed bikes from all jap manufacturers - simply put - to date my experience has been that Honda do the best build quality...

Have plenty of bikes before but - I've spent 10+ years on (2) Blackbirds - was looking to buy my third when I found Honda were not producing them any more...

So after a cast around to see whats on the market - the Kwack ZZR 1400 - was the nearest match I could find... and I thought it looks sexy - as opposed to the Busa - which is goddam uglyist creature on gods earth... no way was I going to buy one of them...

Did I use the god word..? Just to be clear - I'm an athiest really...

I was a little narked that basic stuff such as a centre stand was an optional extra costing in the region of £120... this came as standard on the blackbird...

Anyway... to cut a long story short... what I have learnt since owning the kwack - boils down to this - hondas ride superbly out the showroom - if I care to fork another 2K for a few specialist services (such as stiffer suspension - heavier duty disc breaks - goodridge hoses..) the kwack will handle just as good - if not better... it is a heavier beast than the Blackbird. The Blackbird power output was 164hp the kwack is 200hp

In summary the kwack has some awesome abilities - but in order to exploit them fully - it's gonna cost...

Looks & power output - fantastic..
Gotta spend more money on suspension -breaks & tyres...

For me, Kawasakis have always had the "it" factor over the other japanese marques. I got the hots for them when I was 19 and had a GS550 decided I wanted a Z650. After that I had a GS1000S and then a Z1000J - for me, the Suzukis were competent but slightly lacked a bit of excitement, whereas the Kawas always delivered. I used the J as the basis for building a Harris Magnum in 1985 which was great fun. After that I had a spell of a few years on Yamahas (a Genesis when they first came out, then three EXUPs), but returned to Kawasakis when they made the ZXR750, numerous ZXRs and ZXs later I'm still with them.
Sure, they're not perfect (which bike is?) but for me they have the most character of the Japanese bikes. Honda probably have the best overall Engineering and build quality, but their bikes are almost too well finished off, and have the soul taken out of them, if that makes any sense.

People get used to what they know and tend to stick with it, hence devotees to British, German, Italian and American bikes.

Darren, in your eulogy about Ducatis and the noise they make, you forgot to mention the ever-present possibility of Ducati ownership - the noise of the RAC recovery van as it arrives.... ;D ;D ;D

Have owned three Honda's (all superdreams) and Two Suzuki's (Sv650 and GS500). I've had the Sv the longest and done the most miles on it so Suzuki it has to be!!!

I've gone for Triumph as its the first proper big bike I have owned and have nothing to compare it against. I know, I know I lived a dull and sheltered life which I have wasted away by being away from bikes for so long!!!!!!

My previous bikes were a Yamaha RXS100 which was ace and a Honda 250 Superdream which was reliable and functional.
