The oem are seperate from the taillight, albiet in the same lense. The intergrated ones flash one taillight and there is a potential isssue with legallity.

A few years back my XJR1300 failed the MOT because the indicators did not flash "orange" enough. The bike has mini indicators with white lenses. The bulbs had lost some of the yellow coating.

When I went to collect the bike the man in the office looked at the tester thinking he was joking..

I was back 20 minutes later with bits of orange broken indicater lense wedged in behind the clear lenses (still there 5 years later)

Dare I say I never went there again. My present tester will pass the bike and mention anything that may need doing. There again I never knowingly take a bike to be MOT'ed if I think it will fail.

Noise is down to the descretion of the tester - if he thinks its too noisy then he could fail it

We have a newly qualified MOT tester in the Aircooled RD club who does discount tests for us and gives advice (tests in Southampton though )

He was saying the MOT test rules are forever changing and are getting a lot strictor.
The same chap is also the clubs vehicle dating officer with the DVLA. We can issue letter the DVLA will recognise for registering old bikes

Those Clear Alternative ones are very ambiguous, bad design in my opinion.

I make my own with a different circuit for tail, brake and signal and try to keep the brake and signal apart so it's clear to see what they're doing when everything's on.

I've just made these, and need to book in for an MoT, so will see what the verdict is:


The Sportster 48 has rear lights and indicators together behind the same lens from the factory (as do most cars), so if this passes, mine should:

I'd fail the Clear Alternatives on these grounds as the indicators are obscured by the brake lights. I have designed mine to (hopefully!) pass this criteria.
