Is it me or does that look a lot like a pan euro????[/quote]

To me its a BMW R1200RT, which is no real surprise since that's the market leader. They do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....

I agree with you Graeme, when I saw the pics in MCN I thought it looked like the BMW.

I always remember my Dad saying that the Japanese manufacturers came over here in the late 50s early 60s, copied the best bits of the British bikes and moved the game on.

If Triumph's success in recent times is anything to go by, perhaps the tables have turned. They produce some cracking bikes now.

If they made an all-rounder with sports bike performance like my Fazer thou I would certainly consider buying one. Tiger is too tall and a bit too adventury for me.

I would disagree with the boring bit and yes, I have ridden one. They are supremely good at what they are designed to do which is what you want from a bike. Its hard to see how any manufacturer can improve on a design thats been at the top of its class for a long time, but I hope Triumph can pull something out of the bag. I had also hoped Ducati, Yamaha and now Triumph could have moved the goal posts forward in the Adventure bike class to give BMW some much needed competition, but its very much open to debate if anything has actually been improved. But when something is so good, how do you improve it? Adding more power is missing the point with these types of bike.

My point was not so much the function of the bike, more the form. Sure the BMW is a good bike, but does than mean all have to copy it down to the shape of the lights?? I'm sure the bods at Hinckley could have done better.

Not sure where your power reference comes from???

I wasn't referencing anything in your post Jon. Its made in reference to how someone may improve on a tourer or adventure type bike where outright power, in my view, is not relevant for these kind of uses. This is what some manufacturers have done to "improve" their bikes in a class where outright power is unimportant in my view. I actually quite like the look of both the RT and the Trophy, my point was that one is a copy of the other.
