Hi peeps not mine but wanted to share.

"was hit side on by a 307 pulling out of a turning right in front of me, was only do 30 as well, luckily only damage is to the bike apart from a couple of bruises and small scapes"

how much force is needed to snap the yoke on a bike? rider says he was only do 30 but can the metal be this weak?
onwards and upwards and sometimes a little sidewards....

I'd expect the bike to be mashed to bits for it to snap like that

I take it most of the damage was from the car rather than hitting the floor?

yeah I bet, surprised he didn't get his hand trapped. lucky it was by a turning so the car wouldn't have been at full speed

It's not just a case of the rider doing 30. You have to think of what speed the car was doing, then the two combined speeds colliding and the energy realesed as they both decelerate to 0 mph, quite a lot of energy being released

That head brace is only made of cast alloy of debatable quality. Looking at the photo it looks pretty thin below as well. Look at the break line to see how much porosity is in it.

How it was hit is also a facture on how it broke - odd angle to best strength.

Its better it broke now than be riding with stress cracks in it waiting to fail when you are doing a ton somewhere.

I bet that is not easy to replace either - I would be very surprised if that was a stock part. A good welder could fix it and the weld would be stronger than the original part was.

it's a Korean bike!!! Thats the gamble you pay buying them. It's not worth fixing!!!
If it were a recognized manufacturer like honda, yamaha etc it would be worth fixing IF the frame were ok. Learn from it, lucky escape.
