Anyone renewed a photocard licence?

There was quite a well publicised issue with them losing bike qualifications and they would not accept any anecdotal evidence (even if you had 50 police officer witnesses) so some people had to retake their tests.

I believe this was a few years ago, but I'll probably take a copy anyway.

When I heard about this I gave the DVLA a call to see what their records had about my license - luckily all OK. Some people have said they would claim to have lost their existing license and if the new one comes through incorrect then they magically produce the lost one. That's all well and good but if people do that they must remember to notify the DVLA of the newly found license and sort the issue out - not simply try and use the "lost" license as if they get pulled the police will not accept it and they might spend some time at the local police station trying to sort it out.

I fyou use the post office service the price includes the photograph as well as sending the docs off, when i renewed mine i had lost the A2 entitlement but 15 mins on the phone sorted it and received the correct one 8 days later so don't hang about just renew and if its not right call them and let them know

word of warning...
photo copy both sides of your existing card, then,
when you get it back check your allowance on the back. Ive heard of a few who have not noticed their bike licence was not on there and had to re take their test. even a police bike cop who had been doing the job for years had to retake his test. even been on watchdog or similar programme DVLA dont seem worried... apart from the fine you will get for not having it , thus being allowed to ride your bike

This mainly affects the change from paper to photocard lisences, but that won't work either way. The only copies the DVLA accept as genuine are ones made by the DVLA.

The best way to avoid this is to do it online. That way you do not have to hand in your old lisence until the new one arrives. My Dad did this and had no trouble. I've had the photo done on my lisence and sent it off for change of address twice and never had any problems.

I agree but you can't if you passport is more than 5 years old (presumably they only want recent photos).

Did mine last weekend with Post Office service, simple, straightforward and new licence came back today, all categories intact, points removed(!) and an aged photo!!
