I agree with Dave, if the manual specifies a certain rating, then that's what the electrics ( wiring , generator ) have been designed to run with !!!

I have owned 5 Hornet 600,s ,,

You need to get out a multimeter and take some readings , it is known for the reg/rec to cause issues on the hornet 6,

Been riding for a few years , then a injury kept me off bikes , but now back again and currently been commuting 40 miles a day , and in this weather for last 6 months Brrrrrr
