If you can get sufficient leverage then pure torque will do it, but you may need a breaker bar a metre long and maybe a lump hammer to assist by giving the back of the socket a tap when it's loaded...
DON'T remove the water pump before dropping the engine out! That'll leave a big hole into your gearbox that any crap can get into, even if you're splitting the engine you still don't want anything...
