based on the info you have posted i would look at the ignition pick ups i think they are refering to them as the igniters in the link i posted,do you have a manual for the bike jack if you dont have...

jack not to clued up on the modern bikes but iam sure its not a £500 problem :oprobably a loose conection or some wet got in the ignition system somewhere was raining when you road home try this...

is a little odd jack as you road home from sally ok, was there a strong smell of fuel when you were trying to start it would expect this if it were ignition related, as scotty suggested worth...
