I think this is really good.
It's run by somerset road safety partnership and I'm pretty sure it's subsidised.
The people I've spoken to before who've done it said it was really good, but it's important to realise it's not a track day.
It's about improvig your skills in the safer track environment e.g. I believe they get you to lock up the front brake.
I would love to go, but I have a pair of leathers that are a size too small

I'm too loud for Castle Coombe and reckon the noise limit still in force on that day so not for me (109.7 db when they tested it 3 weeks ago)
Have a great time anyone that does go.

What's peoples opinion, should I get some everyday riding experience under my belt before doing one of these days, or should I get myself onto one of these asap after getting my licence ( fingers crossed by the end of August ) to ensure I don't pick up any bad habits?

Well it does say novice riders will benefit.
If in doubt contact this guy
jnewman@somerset.gov.uk
Jim Newman runs the Someset road safety partnership who organise this and he's a biker and a really good bloke.
I would also recommend also going on a Bike Safe which are free in Wiltshire.

When I spoke to Colin Reeves (Wiltshire Bikesafe Co-Ord) after passing my DAS test last March he suggested waiting a couple of months to get some miles in.
Having said that I think you would learn something even from day 1. I started on the IAM Skills For Life course a couple of months after passing mty test and that was definately worth doing - did a huge amount to improve my confidence and ability and passing that test within a year of ever sitting on a bike was a great boost. It makes you go out and practice over a period of time as well. Additional training will help at any time but you need to put the miles in too.

Thanks for the information folks, another question, do I have to have a full set of leathers if it's not a 'track' day, I have textile clothing.

You probably need leathers.
What size are you?
I have a two piece, the label says size 14 but they would suit a 12.
If you're willing to spill the beans then I'm sure you'll be able to borrow some

I think you might be able to get into mine BUT I would recommend also wearing a back protector and that does take extra room in the top.
Still I'm sure you will be able to borrow some from someone, so I would concentrate on your short term goals first.
