I used to work for Brunel Metrology in Radstock - In my experience Torque Wrenches only go out of specification if they are preloaded (i.e you tighten a spring to set the torque) and this is left wound on.

Some cheap ones are often 5-10% off from new, but that's about the worst case scenario - that would probably fail the British Standard for accuracy, but is more than adequate in a mechanical maintenance setting even for tightening cylinder heads.

Cheers guys,

Phoned that place Daddy Cool, they were a no go, despite what it said, go figure!!!
Nearest place looks like Gloucester.

Hope you are right pilninggas, as i ain't trekking up to Gloucester, i think it was 80 quid in Halfrauds and only goes to 60nm so not really cheap.

not had a problem with my business ones as they are up to 40 years old. Britool, Draper, Gedore and well known names.
always keep them wound back and clean after each use. the business ones are calibrated for insurance.
cant speak for cheaper ones.
Alpha Calibration do our work ones, don't know about private but Mark the owner and Jack a technician both ride bikes.
