Hi I'm Gemma - I've been pillion on a blackbird for some time now and it's time to break out on my own. Have my CBT booked for April then it's onto the Direct Access course. Looking for SV650S or Bandit 600 as first bike but open to suggestions and riding tips!!

my vote goes to the bandit because I had a 600 as my 1st bike and loved it :P

Both good bikes...got to be personal choice. I'd get ur CBT and DAS out of the way and then go test riding. In the mean time...get down ur local dealer and sit on both ...and then do it again...
Its important to feel comfortable...

Welcome...

Mac

alreet nokesy!!

how tall are you? if you are shorter than the average bear then the SV would be better for you.

if not, just go out and test ride everything you can get your hands on 8-)

As I don't know the average height of a bear, does 5ft 10 help??

Thanks for all your welcome notes (and the extra bits...!) - as a non-rider presently, it's nice to feel so welcome on a bikers website!

We are nice and friendly bunch here, most biker sites you go on are full of muppets so it does make a change.

5Ft 10In you could ride anything you like, SV650 is an excellent first bike, but the Bandit will take the falls if you drop it and cost less for a first bike. you could try a sports 400 (mine was an FZR 400 RR)
