Hello All

I was wondering is anybody on O2 Broadband??
If so how good is it and what are the speeds like and conectivity??

As I am with BT at the mo and it is costing me an arm and a leg for nothing, as I am without broadband more than with and paying through the nose for it, as my wife is on a O2 mobile we can get O2 for £7ish rather than £16 with BT

Have a look at BE broadband. 24mbps download. I use it at work and for connecting a London office. There's a post code search to see if it is available in your area.
I find it very good.

Cheers Kev

O2 I beleive own BE so they are one in the same.

I am with O2 for my broadband, I am not in an LLU area though so I am on the 8mb (£17 a month as an existing O2 Mobile customer) package. I had a load of issues since Christmas with slow evening and weekend speeds, but rang them and they knocked the price down a bit.

In the last week the speed has been awesome again and I got an email to say they have upgraded the whole of their network as takeup of new customers far exceeded what they could handle. But now they have fixed it, the speeds are awesome again (shame the price has gone up too back to non-discounted price)

Customer services are great too and all UK based people you end up speaking to.

Hi Davel

Strange that as on the O2 site I can get the Standard on the £7.34 (As wife has a O2 Mobile), but the BE site have said they are not in the area and will e-mail when they are.

Remember it's not always who you are with that's the issue. There are SO many variables on what will or won't give you a good reliable connection that without knowing more details than we (as consumers) have access to, it's always going to a be a gamble... is the copper good? whats your local contention? distance from exchange? internal wiring? interferance? equipment blah blah blah the list goes on... The moral of the story is that most home users will find most ISPs service 'acceptable'.

Recommend Cable if its available in your area. Will eliminate most of the variables. 8-)

I use sky for £5 a month 40gb download limit per month and it is limited to 2mb downstream. It’s not the fastest service I’ve used but it’s only a fiver (I don’t file share so can’t comment on this)

I cant get the SKY £5 deal in my area, when I do a check into all the really good ones I cant get them , just like Virgin Cable cant get that either, so I am stuck with standard ADSL.
Now I know it is not the caberling in the house, as I had our works cable guy come out and put new cable from the BT box to the wall socket and also instaled a NTE box (BT Test box), I have got a new filter and cables and changed routers, so I know it is the line or the exchange that is the problem.
Now this also gives me a headache as if I go with anybody else they are going to use the BT line so even if I go with bob the builder I am still going to have this issue.... >:( >:(

This is why I am paying £17 odd a month with o2 and not the nice lower price of 9 or whatever it is.

Its called LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) and the reason you get the faster net with AOL, Sky, O2 etc when you get the faster and lower prices, basically it means that the company who is offering it has gone to your phone exchange and installed their own equipment into it. Since you can not get these cheap offers your exchange has not been upgraded by the companies you are asking which is why you have to use your BT line. The reason its more with your BT line is because BT charge people like sky to use it and BTs kit in the exchange, hence the higher cost.

If you want to see if your exchange has been sheduled to be upgraded go here and type in where you live.

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php

Enter your phone number or post code, then it will show your exchange, it will bring up a list of services down the right hand side and you need to press "LLU XDSL" and that will show the companies in the UK who are installing their own kit, and if they have any work for you area in the pipline or not.

Until they do it, there is no cheap quicker broadband coming your way I am afraid.

I was with BT and sacked them off for O2, so far other than their network been slightly slow as I mentioned ina previous post, have been really happy with them. Decent Customer service, speeds are now awesome, and unlike BT they dont throttle the service during peak times so if you are a gamer or download large files they are much better a choice than BT.

That and it was £24 a month with BT and £17 a month with o2 so I am better off in the pocket too!

Hope this helps.

Yes it does, as you can see by my signature I am a gamer so it would help a lot.

if you can get 2meg ,that should be plenty for gaming, but depends on where your connecting too, even with 10meg i can lag up on a US server,

Just depends on how much your into online gaming

Yes I am now getting 3Mb plus (depending if I am using the WiFi or the NIC), this is now fine but the problem I have is that BT have had my money and for a couple of months now I have had little or no connection, I had one month where I had nothing, and this last month it has been running at 256kb until this weekend gone where they said they had done some work on the line and boosted it backup again.
The thing is until Oct last year I was running fine and since then it has been up and down like a whores drawers, but when I put this to BT nothing has changed bar what they have done to fix my issue.

They're getting your money every month, why should they put themselves out to please you??? >:(
I had a major falling out with Orange a year ago (I could see it coming after they took over Wanadoo, I just waited for them to f*ck up a perfectly good service, and in that respect they didn't disappoint...) It took ages to get any sense out of Pakistan - talking to a guy in Rotherham got it done, I canned them and have been on Virgin since, much happier :)

Well once again the Home broadband has gone tits up, and called BT again last night and they couldnt belive that it is taking this long to get fixed, and I said I know.
So yet again it is in the hands of the engineers.

BT stands for Bloody Terrible.

igbell
24-04-09, 01:34 PM
So I get home to answer phone message saying that BT have fixed my fault, I rush upstairs switch on the PC, while doing this I see that I have no connection lights on the router.
The PC boots up and I still have no connection, so I call BT, after passing me backwards and forwards between peeps, I get somebody that wants to jump on my machine to have a look at the config and the Router, I say go ahead mate if you get my line working then you can jump on, you numpty.
2 Hours latter they are sending out another engineer, so I then say this will be the 3rd engineer in 7 months, what is he going to find the other 2 didnt??
But still he is supposed to be coming out today (even though I am at work and nobody is at home) to check the cables and the router and then the exchange as well.

Ho hum life is great with no pornband and paying out £17 a month for nothing......

gotta love BT and their fault fixing :) we're a wholesale ISP at work so when we diagnose a line fault etc we have to use BT Openreach to go onsite and fix things...always a headache. Some do a good job but most can't be bothered and blame anyone other than themselves.

igbell
24-04-09, 03:35 PM
So after they said an engineer would be out to see me today I call BT to find that one had never been booked, so now one has been booked for the morning, oh great.

igbell
27-04-09, 10:18 AM
Arrrrgggghhh

Can you belive it, Sat and engineer comes out and cant see a problem an hour after he leaves it goes wrong, call BT argue with 3 different managers and then get another engineer to come out this morning, he turns up and sees the old BT router and goes there is your fault, they are a known issue, so after 7 months on and off of the phone all the time and 4 engineers latter somebody can tell what the issue is by LOOKING at the issue in hand.

I am going to kill someone, so if you dont hear from me for a while it will be cos I will in the nick alright....... >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
